Buy for a PS5 library or a proven PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot
SN850X remains a strong gift because 2TB is useful capacity, its TLC-and-DRAM design is mature, and PCIe 4.0 performance is already enough for PS5 and high-end gaming PCs. It no longer wins by being WD's newest technology; PCIe 5.0 drives are much faster on paper. Buy on compatibility and price per terabyte, not on brand nostalgia. It is wrong for Xbox Series expansion, a laptop that cannot fit its heatsink, or a PC with no NVMe M-key slot.

- PC: confirm an M.2 2280 M-key slot wired for NVMe. It is backward-compatible in some slower PCIe slots, but speed and boot support depend on the board and firmware.
- Laptop: measure the storage bay. Many thin laptops accept only a bare single-sided or low-profile module and cannot close over this heatsink.
