The verdict
Buy for the outdoor runner who refuses to seal their ears
This is a very good gift for a runner, walker or cyclist who prioritizes awareness, stability and comfort over immersive sound. It is a poor choice for aircraft, subway commutes, a quiet shared office, swimming or anyone expecting deep earbud bass. The recipient must also suit the wraparound band and the correct Standard or Mini size.
Why it works
- ✓ Open ear canals preserve environmental awareness instead of simulating it with a transparency mode
- ✓ Shokz claims up to 12 hours, with 2.5 hours from a five-minute quick charge
- ✓ IP55 protection, physical buttons, USB-C and a stable titanium frame fit regular outdoor training
Tradeoffs
- × It intentionally provides virtually no noise isolation and can leak sound to nearby people
- × Bass weight and overall fidelity cannot match good conventional earbuds or headphones
- × The rear band can interfere with headrests and floor exercises, while IP55 does not permit swimming
Fit and use matter more than colour
- Size: OpenRun Pro 2 comes in Standard and Mini. Use Shokz's sizing guide; Mini shortens the band rather than shrinking the sound technology.
- Identity: confirm OpenRun Pro 2 and USB-C. The first OpenRun Pro uses a proprietary magnetic charging cable and has a shorter battery claim.
- Safety: open-ear listening improves awareness but never guarantees safety. Local road rules, sensible volume and active observation still apply.
- Water: IP55 covers dust and water jets under test conditions, not immersion. Do not gift it as swimming audio.

Quick answers before gifting
Is OpenRun Pro 2 actually bone conduction?
Partly. Its DualPitch system combines a bone-conduction driver for mids and highs with an air-conduction driver for bass while leaving the ear canal open.
Can nearby people hear it?
Yes, particularly at elevated volume. RTINGS found faint, thin leakage even at moderate levels. It is not ideal for a silent library or closely spaced office.
Does it have noise cancelling?
No listening ANC—and that is the point. The open design admits surrounding sound. The microphones use processing for calls, which is a separate feature.
Can it connect to two devices?
Yes. Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint supports two paired source devices, though the setting may need to be enabled in the Shokz app.
Is it safe in rain?
IP55 provides useful sweat and water-jet resistance, but it is not immersion protection. Dry the USB-C port before charging and never use it for swimming.
