This is a strong gift for a renter or homeowner already comfortable with Ring and Alexa who needs a clear parcel-level view without mandatory wiring. The swappable battery avoids removing the whole doorbell to charge, while the new narrower body fits more trim. It is poor value when the recipient expects free video history, wants Apple Home integration, has weak porch Wi-Fi, or is uncomfortable putting entrance footage and household routines into a cloud-camera ecosystem.

Is a Ring subscription mandatory?
No. Notifications, Live View and two-way talk remain available without one. Recording, replay and smart person, package and vehicle alerts require a compatible paid plan.
Does hardwiring eliminate battery charging?
Not necessarily. Existing compatible wiring provides trickle charging and may run a mechanical chime, but the doorbell still operates from its battery. Activity and cold can outpace the charge.
Is an indoor chime in the box?
