Does Litter-Robot 4 require special litter?

Can a kitten use Litter-Robot 4?
Only kittens weighing at least 3 lb should use automatic mode. Below that weight, Whisker recommends leaving the unit off and running a supervised manual cycle after the kitten leaves.
Does Litter-Robot 4 eliminate scooping completely?
It automates the sifting step. The owner still empties the waste drawer, adds litter, cleans the globe and drawer, and keeps the sensors clear. Calling it maintenance-free would oversell it.
Is Litter-Robot 5 worth paying more for?
It can be if the household has five cats, needs the larger 3–30 lb range, values the larger waste drawer, or wants WasteID and the newer display. For up to four cats where the core goal is automatic sifting and app monitoring, LR4 remains the lower-priced route.
