Buy for true pocket portability, not party sound
Go 4 is a charming inexpensive gift for someone who wants a speaker small enough to carry without planning. It works best at close range for podcasts, background music and a few friends. It is not a room-filling system: bass rolls off, stereo content plays in mono from one unit, output compresses near maximum, and its real-world battery is an afternoon rather than a weekend.

Do not let similar names hide the generation
- Identity: confirm JBL Go 4, Bluetooth 5.3, IP67 and Auracast. Go 3 lacks the app and Auracast; Go 5 is the newer IP68 model.
- Price: compare the final Canadian total with Go 5 and JBL Clip 5. Go 4 only earns a 2026 recommendation through savings or a preferred colour.
- Pairing: stereo requires a second Go 4. Auracast can group compatible JBL speakers, but older JBL pairing systems are not interchangeable.
- Use: IP67 is useful protection, not permission to charge wet, leave it submerged or expose it indefinitely to salt, chlorine or freezing water.

Quick answers before gifting
Does JBL Go 4 float?
RTINGS reports that it floats, and it carries an IP67 rating. Still use the loop near water and rinse and dry it properly after pool or salt exposure.
What does Playtime Boost change?
JBL claims it adds up to two hours by tuning output. Independent testing found it removes much of the low end, so it is an emergency endurance mode rather than free battery life.
Can it play stereo?
One speaker downmixes stereo to mono. Pair two Go 4 units for left-right stereo, or use Auracast to group compatible speakers for wider coverage.
Can I answer calls through it?
No. Go 4 has no microphone or speakerphone support, and it does not provide a wired AUX audio input.
Should I buy Go 4 now that Go 5 exists?
Only when Go 4 is meaningfully cheaper or a specific colour matters. Similar full prices favour Go 5's newer protection, battery and connection features.
