It feels more complete than a budget label maker and does not depend on disposable batteries. For someone who only wants a few plain labels, however, the required app and ongoing Brother tape purchases may be more expense than pleasure.

It uses Brother TZe tape cassettes. Brother Canada lists widths of 3.5, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 mm, including several laminated and specialty tape types; compatibility varies by cassette.
No separate ink or toner cartridge is installed. Its thermal-transfer system works with the ribbon inside each TZe cassette, so replacement tape remains an ongoing consumable expense.
